ABSTRACT

In this study I will try to explore the concept of “wound healing” in Diabetic patient care. The main focus of the research will be to reflect the wound healing in Diabetic patient care. The research will also analyze the effectiveness of different practices on overall health of patient. Finally the research describes various factors which can affect the healing process of diabetic patient.

CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Research

A cross-section of literature on wound healing and highlights how diabetes mellitus can cause deviations from usual healing patterns.

Aims and Objectives

The research will focus on the following aims and objectives:

Demonstrate the delivery of care, in accordance with trusted protocols, policies and guidelines in relation to diabetic patients with wounds.

Ensuring patients receive the highest quality of care by researching and reviewing evidence based articles.

Ensure improved patient morbidity.

CHAPTER 02: LITERATURE REVIEW

Wound bed

Proper wound assessment can significantly influence patient outcome. Measure the wound carefully and document the condition of the wound bed. Remember that accurate descriptions are essential for guiding ongoing wound care. Repeat wound measurement and wound-bed assessment at least weekly, after the wound bed has been cleaned and derided. Keep in mind that assessing a chronic wound can be challenging. Wounds commonly have irregular shapes that can change quickly. Also, the multiple nurses caring for the same patient may each describe the wound a bit differently. (Heyneman, 2002, pp. 52)

Classifications of wounds

Intentional/Unintentional

Wounds are usually classified as intentional or unintentional. Intentional wounds are those that are purposefully created for therapeutic reasons. Examples are surgical incisions or venipuncture. These are wounds that are created under sterile conditions and are closed immediately after the intervention to repair the skin integrity and prevent infection. (Ohio State University, 2004, p. 22)

Unintentional wounds are those that are accidental. Examples include traumatic wounds, such as a compound fracture, a gunshot wound, or an abrasion from an accident. These wounds are much more prone to infection because of the “dirty” nature of the accident. (Manley, 2000, pp.368)

Closed/Open

Wounds are also classified as closed or open. A closed wound is one where the skin remains ...
