Diego Rivera

Introduction

Diego Rivera was born in Guanajuato, Mexico in the year 1886. He studied art with some of the major artists of his time. He was inspired by the sculpture of Mexico. The work of Goya and El Greco inspired him the most. He was a dreamer to say the least and believed that there was a need to give response to "the new order of things?…?and that the logical place for this art?…?belonging to the populace, was on the walls of public buildings." The most prominent of his works is the fresco painting which laid down the basis of the Mexican Mural Art (Aguilar, 1999)). Mexican Mural Art is a historic alliance between art and politics. His murals and paintings are not only a prominent art work in the Mexico but also in other parts of the world such as New York City, San Francisco, and Detroit. The biggest exhibition of the maestro's paintings during his lifetime was held at the Museum of Modern Art in the year 1931.

Early life

The artists has a lot work in Europe in early childhood he moved to Europe and spent most of his time in Paris. He studied the Renaissance there and brought back the insights of the contemporary art with him to Mexico. He belonged to the middle class family in Mexico. His mother was an impossible woman and his father was rather ruined. He had the opportunity to study in some of the best art schools in the world. He got his training in art not only in Mexico but also in Europe. He was a good student and won several scholarships. The cubist period of the artist was what gained him the first glimpse of fame and recognition. This may be his sheer hard work and genius or beginner's luck that the man managed to make a name for himself at the time (Owens, 2010). However, this did not last long. The cubism came to an end with the various rows that led Rivera to abandon his love for cubism. It was then that he moved to Italy and studied renaissance in detail. In his student life, he proved that he was too mature for his age and was an intellect. The way he would look at and perceive different things made him stand out as an art student.

Rivera's relationship with Kahlo

A majority of the people who know Rivera and who have read his biographies have admitted that they had a keen interest in reading about his relationship with his third wife Kahlo. The two were very close. Rivera took great pride in his wife who was an icon for many women of the time. It was Rivera who bought her Indian clothes and she adopted that style for the rest of her life. She wore the Indian dress and the Indian jewelry which became her signature ...
