Digital Literacy

Introduction

Digital literacy is the ability of a person to use the new media, which gives the opportunity to participate actively in an increasingly digitized society. An example that is often used in digital literacy is the ability to use the new ICT (Information and Communication technology) tools to access information through available channels. The term digital literacy has emerged in the last thirty years in conjunction with the spread of new technologies and the use of computer. The first person to use the term digital literacy was Glister, who in 1997 described this concept as an essentially cognitive act. In fact, this term does not refer to a mere acquisition of technical skills, but the construction of cognitive and cultural factors that should allow you to use sources and select the information through the use of internet (Flood, Heath & Lapp, Pp. 33). Digital literacy is assumed to be effective and critical for the purpose of navigating, evaluating and gathering information in order to utilize the maximum benefits of digital technologies. In today's modern society, the concept of digital literacy remains extremely important.

The aim and objective of this essay is to present argument about importnace of digital literacy in the modern world. The paper argues that although the digital literacy has utmost importnace but we should not lost ourselves in this digital world and should retain our research competncies and skills.

Discussion

The following part undertakes dicussion to prove that digital literacy is important and that we should not forget the importnatce of research and skills that are required to conduct the research should not be vanished by relying on digital literacy.

About the Digtal Literacy

Digital literacy is basically the capability to exploit the advantage that is provided by digital technologies. With the passage of time, increasing trends of applying latest technologies to all the fields have rapidly advanced navigation, evaluation and creation of information.

Commentators tracing the evolution of the term “digital literacy” often begin by citing approaches to the term that focus on skills, arguing that these are narrowly conceived (Ramage, Bean & Johnson, Pp. 418). A focus on individuals' skills and competencies relates clearly to the original and persisting requirements for qualifications and skills required by IT industries. As computers increasingly permeate the economy, smaller groups of people are able to understand them. During this time bachelors' and masters' degrees in computer science and related fields grew (Flood, Heath & Lapp, Pp. 29).

Relationship between Digital Literacy and Research

Relationship of research and digital literacy has been significant. The concept of digital literacy revolves around the important digital devices like computer and internet. There is another relatively new phenomenon has emerged in the form of digital citizenship which refers to the person who utilizes digitalization to interact with society (Herther, Pp. 418).

Concept of Monographs

Educators have long been concerned with what is now termed as information literacy, or “the ability to identify, locate, and use information effectively (Ramage, Bean & Johnson, pp. 420)”. Monograph is ...
