Dinosaur-Acrocanthosaurus

Introduction

In 1950, it was discovered in North America several skeletons of this huge carnivorous dinosaur. Acrocanthosaurus name means "lizard backbones" and refers to the elongated spines (up to 30 cm long) were an outgrowth of the spine of the animal. These spines were probably covered with skin, forming a ridge along the back. Ridge Acrocanthosaurus was low compared to those of some of his relatives living elsewhere. The spines of Altispinax of Western Europe were four times as long as the vertebrae that supports them. African Spinosaurus had a "veil" measuring 1.80 m high (Naish, Darren &Martill, 2001).

Discussion

The 'acrocantosauro (Acrocanthosaurus) was a giant carnivorous dinosaur whose fossils were found in Oklahoma and Texas in the Cretaceous strata inferiore.Descritto for the first time since Stovall and Langston in 1950, the acrocantosauro was immediately recognized as one of the largest predators of its time, but the remains were somewhat disjointed. Nevertheless, this animal was classified as belonging to the order saurischians, suborder theropods. Due to a low "sail" back (hence the name which means "lizard from the high spine"), was approached to animals such as Spinosaurus and Becklespinax, with a similar structure, but in reality all these dinosaurs are not closely related to each them. Because of this wing ridge very low, 'acrocantosauro did not exceed a height of 4 m and this was a huge disadvantage because he could not even get it was as if his back was a block. But his "wing" also had the advantage that allowed the dinosaur to have shots of the impressive speed and allowed him to stay long at its maximum speed, giving it extreme stability and a good push for impart. The Acrocanthosaurus was a representative of the group of giant carnosaurs, whose best known exponent of the Late Jurassic Allosaurus. However, if ...
