Introduction

The significant role of media in the politics of the modern day influences every individual to raise voice regarding the type of world in which he resides and identify the model of democracy an individual as a citizen wish for the same society. There are two different and contrasting concepts of democracy; the one is what serves as a path for us to reach at a point where there is a democratic society on one hand, people have access to dispose the resources in order to take their part in meaningful way in the management regarding their own matter and the second one is that the media should be impartial and free. The main concept of the word “democracy” is the same in the dictionary as it has been identified above.

However, another concept is that the democracy should not be allowing individuals to take their matters in their hands, whereas the media is required to be rigidly controlled and strong. This concept could be view as an outdated analysis of democracy, but it is very important to have a clear understanding of this concept in all the matters, which is widespread idea. In fact, it has been prevailed since long time ago, not only in theory but also in practice. However, democracy is a vast concept in the modern world regarding the development of the notion of democracy (Gumbel, 2006). This essay will be considering the Chomsky's propaganda model which he has explained in the book “Manufacturing Consent” this book was published in the year 1988, and will consider the relation of this model to the Moyer's “Buying the War. This paper will emphasize on the issues related to media and its role in misinforming or hiding in the same context.

Propaganda Model

The Propaganda Model is considered as a conceptual model in the context of the political economy which was initiated by Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman. The main aim of this model was to identify the way in which the propaganda that also contains the systematic biases operates in mass media. The propaganda model looks for finding the fact the ways in which the populations are manipulated and explains the theoretical basis as to how the consent regarding the social, political policies and economic views are “Manufactures” in the minds of the general public with the help of this propaganda. The theory presented in this model put an emphasis on the ways in which the news is structured with the help of media ownership, advertising and government sourcing etc. built an innate conflict of interest that later on behave as propaganda for some of the forces which are undemocratic (Herman, 2003).
