Debriefing of soldiers to help those who need psychiatric or other services

Debriefing is the term used for informal conversational sessions that deal with sharing and examining of information of a particular event which has taken place (debriefing.com, 2013). Debriefing can be used for various purposes depending on a situation. For instance, it can be used to improve the psychological condition for military or even for research. In military, debriefing is done through unit leaders that gather information from troops who have returned from an operation. The information covered events that cover events that had happened in a battle. This encouraged psychological benefits as soldiers were able to voice their concerns and tell their experiences to increase group coherence and increase their morale. Soldiers were able to share information, misconceptions regarding the events of the operation and the accomplishments of the soldiers. The success of debriefing lies in the effectiveness of finding the issues faced by the soldiers and accordingly dealing with them. Mostly, soldiers are in great depression and flashes of the post war are immense which become difficult for even the medical practitioner to solve. They refuse to get medical care for their psychological symptoms which become a great hindrance in making them better.

Debriefing is one of the many forms that are used for demobilization of soldiers from a combat situation or a stressful situation. It is crucial for restor0ation of effectiveness of a unit and prevents any post-traumatic stress issues following traumatic situations. According to findings of a research many mental health issues are deterred when individuals are allowed to vent their fears, frustrations and feelings about a situation and receive support from others.

Mental Health Care for Soldiers and their willingness to accept it

Individuals in the military which are at home or on the field, during peace or in combat are entitled by the government to medical services. According to the research by RAND, the physical and mental health issues are of great importance for the interpersonal relationships, employment opportunities and to continue a normal life with their families. There are many recommendations to support these soldiers in reintegration into civilian. Studies in the past have showed that soldiers and marines had many barriers to seeking mental health care. Although, they were diagnosed with mental problems there were certain barriers to their medical care. It was noted by the authors that those individuals who have greater issues were less likely to seek healthcare. These individuals had problems in keeping up with jobs and changed their relationships with other colleagues. In order to counter this problem, the army implemented 'Battle mind training' which was to prepare soldiers and their families about the war and combat features. This program was created to reduce mental health implications and soldiers were encouraged to obtain assistance as required.
