Introduction

Ship brokering ha the origin dating back to the past when there were lesser technologies and also mark the early days of the commercial aspects of the sea trading. It has also given rise to the commercialization of the port and has been one of the explore professions in the past. In the beginning, the owner of the ship used to be the trader or simply the owner used to cater all the functions. He used to bring up food, commodities and other product to a country or a city and take many other products to another place. This was the way to promote the trade and commercialization between the countries and the areas. This was based on two parts, that is, the trading activity and the shipping activity. This two activities lead to the evolution of shipping market. The owner of the ship carried the products and the cargo from one location to the other providing the ample supply to the buyers. From the advent of the technology and the ships that have been available for the trade, there have been many reforms in the shipping industry. With the evolution and the modification of the profession in the shipment industry, the role played by the ship-brokers became more viable and precisely defined. So it was more prominently explained that shipbroker is actually the person (small firm or organization) who are responsible to find ships for the merchants and cargoes for the ship owners.

To help understand the role of the ship brokers, it is necessary to first introduce relevant information about the evolution of the shipping industry and its development. This also demonstrates the important role that is played by the ship brokers in world trade, especially in the shipping industry, and helps to identify two major concerns regarding the role of the ship brokers: market dynamics and the change in the role of the ship brokers and the evolution of the role and the impacts it had on the profession (Robinson, 2002, 241).
