Domestic Violence and its Major Issues

Domestic Violence is considerably the most common crime that is of least consideration in most societies. Not only in under developing countries, domestic violence is also being practiced in various developed societies, when men and women both have equal rights and power to speak for their privileges (Hester, M. 2011). However, in third world countries, it is amongst the most common unlawful practice in which people got engage every day. The biggest victims of domestic violence are women, especially housewives, who bear immense psychological and physical torture from their husbands (Summers, RW. et al., 2012). Despite of them, daughters, mothers and other family members are also suffer. In short, women are the actual victim of domestic violence.

Domestic violence creates various issues in the social arrangement of a particular society, where it is practiced. It affects the psychology of upbringing children who observe domestic violence in their houses. It is considered that male children, who suffer from domestic violence in their house, either directly or indirectly, tend to become more aggressive and domestically violent in their adulthood (Johnson, JL. et al., 2005). Women is an important part of our social structure, and though domestic violence, we are not only diminishing the emotions of women, as gender, but also destroying the system of our social structure. There are several individual and social issues created because of domestic violence. Amongst Individual issues there are physical disability, mental illness, psychological disorder or can lead to death. Whereas, social issues can affects role of woman is social arrangement, impact on children's psychology and the image of in the social realm. As Intersectionality theory states, society is not dependent upon single social element, but all social elements need to work together to construct a healthy social structure.

Major Question of Concern

The biggest concern about domestic violence is that it does not only affect those people, who are directly undergoing these circumstances, but it also affects people who are associated with the respective environment (Johnson, JL. et al., 2005). Children are considered as the most indirectly affected victims of domestic violence, when their mothers undergo violence in front of their eyes (Tufford, L., et al. 2010). It is considerably the biggest question the how much domestic violence indirectly affects the psychological arrangement and mentality of children and adolescents.

Thesis Statement

This paper is designed to elucidate the phenomenon of domestic violence in local societies. Domestic violence has a vital impact, not only impact upon victim but also upon other people associated with the victim. It is considered that children are the biggest indirect victim of domestic violence. The Thesis statement states that, “Domestic violence has a vital indirect impact upon children and adolescents, directly attached with the domestic violence victim, and leads to mental illness, depression and distress.
