Abstract

The concept of domestic violence is important for discussion because further research of this observable fact can assist in exploring effective preventive measures. Domestic violence which is also termed as interpersonal violence is an everyday and frequently a lethal actuality of life of millions of people. The charge of violence includes both the monetary and human lives concerns. In the United States, domestic violence is responsible for affecting lives of adults, children and serious injuries among women. These facts are indicating that the domestic violence is a mistreated issue. However, health care professionals in this respect can play a responsible role through identifying the victims of domestic violence as well as define the preventive measures. For that reason, healthcare professionals should follow their ethical obligations to expose the cases of domestic violence. Furthermore, decisions regarding domestic violence should combine with the legal actions in order to understand the complicated issues which are linked with the indispensable coverage of domestic violence and abuse.

Introduction

Domestic violence has produced numerous effects on the lives of millions of people in many ways. Adult victims have suffered from physical, emotional, sexual and economic abuse. Children are also affected by the adverse effects of domestic violence. Domestic violence is leading the deterioration of system of society as well as it is influence upon the life of individuals. The biggest issue is related to domestic violence is that it has been mistreated and frequently not exposed yet. Domestic violence has numerous names, counting close partner violence. Additional terms that are also associated with domestic violence include domestic abuse, domestic assault, and dysfunctional relationship. However, the intimate partner violence is the most recent term and it includes all types of violence against the close partner, in spite of marital status and excludes the other forms of domestic violence such as child abuse, sibling abuse, elder abuse, and violence between the two roommates who are not close partners. Domestic violence covers the emotional, sexual, psychological and other types of violence against the person by spouse, ex- spouse or other parent of a child. A kind of abuse is also important and normally includes threats, injuries, harassment, harm to living beings, and property (Johnson & Grant, 2005). A major reason for domestic reason is a domination of partner over other partner. Abusers may think that they should control their partner because of low self-respect, distrust, or when they undergo an inferior complex due to the high education level or social background of their partner.
