Effects of Internet on Teens

Introduction

Twentieth century has seen many inventions and transformation in technologies. However, rise of the information technology age and the emergence of the internet has been a significant reason in changing our lives drastically. It facilitates and enables us to live our lives with ease, but there are people with negative approaches who tend to exploit things and hamper lives. Internet is one of them. The word Internet is short for “interconnected network of computers.” A computer network is two or more computers that are able to communicate and share data with each other, as well as share printers and other devices. The Internet is a network of tens of thousands of computer networks worldwide, enabling computer users to send and receive digital information to and from each other. The Internet is certainly one of the best inventions of the 20th century, but this invention can have a negative impact on teenagers by causing them, harmful social behaviours and poor study habits. (Tapscott 45-50)

Virtually all computers, from a personal computer to the large supercomputers used by business and government, can be part of the Internet if they are equipped with the appropriate software and hardware. Some telephones, televisions, and video-game consoles can also be linked to the Internet. A global network of telephone lines, fiber-optic cables, and wireless and satellite transmissions enables a person with a computer and an Internet connection to access millions of different computers around the world. Some have called the development of the Internet an information revolution that could radically change how modern society operates. This paper discusses the effects of internet on teens.

Thesis Statement

The Internet was one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, but this invention can have a negative impact on teenagers by causing them, poor study habits, and harmful social behaviours.
