Effects of World War II

Introduction

World War II began in Europe with a series of military operations that allow Germany to conquer a number of countries. From 1941, the conflict became global, with the entry into the war on the USSR, Japan and the United States. Since 1943, Allied forces resumed the offensive, until their final victory in 1945 (Brakman, pp. 201-218). Three key issues are faced by the European nations after this conflict. That is economic, political and social. Some of the key effects of World War II will be discussed in this paper.

Thesis Statement

“The consequences of the Second World War are numerous and conflict marked a milestone in the history of the contemporary world.”

Social Effects

There is, of course, in the short term, massive destruction of great importance. Never before in history are on such a large scale devastated and never are so many casualties. This is because a large number of countries involved in the war, but it also came by modern and effective weapons that are used. The worst thing is that there are so many victims' cases among the civilian population. In the past, ordinary people suffered from wars, but never to the extent as in this war (Gegeo, pp. n.d). Most victims died in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). The exact number is unknown, but it is believed that more than 20 million Russians are killed and 28 million people left homeless by the war. It killed 3.5 million German soldiers (twice as many as in the First World War) and there are one million German civilians. In Japan are "only" 2 million deaths, not very much when you consider that the front on which the war is carried very wide (Brakman, pp. 201-218).
