Introduction

Homo-sapiens have been unique in absolute natural ways. Since the beginning of mankind, the human civilization has a natural infliction towards the aesthetic elements. There is no limitation of the natural inclination. It goes beyond the sense of bounded imagination. Art has held a special place in the lives of human-beings. The reason may be contradicting, while the inclination is same. However, it is justifiable to claim that every individual came to this world with distinct levels of apprehension. The sense of apprehension exploits a human mind to think beyond the boundaries. They adopt distinct ways to record the inheritance of sensitivity. Some of them grow up to become the admirers of art; some of them turn out to be artists themselves. The case of art & non-art has rumbled the intellectual arenas for years (Robert, 2003). However, the confusion between art & non-art has enabled minds to differentiate. The differentiation of the art & design may be a source of confusion for many (Bernard, 2003). However, the confusion leads to exploration of the strong association between the two terms. Art & design complement the human intelligence in the most aesthetic way. The difference, between the art & design, can be instrumental or cognitive (Bernard, 2003). However, the contrast nurtures the association between the two domains.

Discussion

The term “art” exemplifies a two-fold phenomenon. The interpretation of both is different; rather, it is the negation of each other. The first notion of “art” represents the presence of a figurative item. In other words, it refers to something which can be represented. Representational art is another name for figurative art (Robert, 2003). The second interpretation is about the non-representational art. Avital (1992) defines two terms to lock the contrast: Realism & abstract Art. The history of art manifests that anything (or everything) can fall into the vibrant line of abstract art. However, it is apparent that the distinct between the concepts has to live through the art cycle. A figurative painting has a cognitive connection with the real world.

Art is a concept which has a wide spectrum. The vastness, in the term, is observable. The subject has gone through constant progression. For this reason, there is ample literature on the dimension of the art & design. Art is a composition of contrasting notions. It involves the discussion of concrete & abstract, seen or unseen, and tangible or non-tangible (Avital, 1999). Art admirers understand the techniques of graffiti. Art is subject of inspiration. For this reason, the subject seems to derive ideas from distinct philosophers (Pipes, 2002). The concept of “horror vacui” acknowledges the Aristotle theory (Karlin, 2003).
