Energy Challenges and Issues of China

Introduction

Energy plays a vital role in the development and prosperity of a country. It acts as the basic foundation of the progress of human civilization and the condition for the development of modern society. It dates back to the pre-historic era when humans experienced various energy evolutions, from firewood to coal, and to petroleum oil, nuclear to biofuels (Jiang 2008). China takes a leading position in the production and consumption of energy. It covers a large geographical landscape and industries creating an increasing demand of energy. China faces various challenges and issues in satisfying these demands. However, it devised strategies and policies to counter these problems in a coherent manner.

China is not only the world's largest energy producer but also the second largest country in energy consumption. The energy market of China is facing many obstacles in satisfying the needs of energy due to several reasons. In recent decades, China has suffered from crucial environmental issues due to pollution and waste produced during the course of economic development and establishment. The regulations related to the environmental safety was poorly implemented and disregarded by the local communities and legitimate authorities. This was one of the main apprehensions of the public protests and riots over the environmental issues and has become increasingly common.

Discussion

China bears the world's largest population according to "Communiqué of the National Bureau of Statistics of People's Republic of China on Major Figures of the 2010 Population Census" (National Bureau of Statistics of China). Thus, the foremost concern raised is growth and scale. The distribution of energy through physical expansion of the system remains scalability issue to provide fuel for the continuous improvement of quality of life.

China is in the phase of dynamic development through industrialization, urbanization, and mobilization, but compromising highly on its atmosphere. This transition requires massive amounts of energy utilization. The emission of toxicants during the manufacturing of energy remains an unresolved concern in China.

The China government must take important strategic actions to maintain long-term sustainability and stable use of energy use of resources. This cannot be done without the collaboration with the other countries of the world. Considering the current condition of China, the alliance with other nations will prove to be beneficial for the country and ties the lands through optimized fair trade of energy escorting to resolution of problems.

Challenges and Issues

Security of supply and energy options

The vast geographical region of China remains a challenge faced by the supply of energy. The energy loss in the transition phase e.g. electricity loss due to the corrosion in copper wire transmission significantly reduces the amount of usable energy. Large population of China causes inefficient energy consumptions. Thus, the government has taken responsibility of security and reserving energy up to a certain extent by applying modern technology of circuit breaks and fuses that automatically switches off the power supply of entire demised premises if the consumption per capita reaches a mark beyond the allocated ...
