Language serves as one of the basic communication tool that helps to interact with the people who are present in our surroundings. With the help of language, it can be communicated to the listener that how we feel, or think about a peculiar characteristic. Communication serve as a two-way street in which we provide our response and get an insight related to the other person's thoughts and beliefs. English and Vietnamese are considered as the two languages having a wide range of similarities and differences in terms of their origin, tone, pronunciation, grammar and number of other aspects. This essay has an objective to compare and contrast two languages (that is English and Vietnamese) that I have learned. This comparison and contrast essay will be provided support with the help of linguistic details associated with each of the language.
Comparison of English and Vietnamese Language
Origin
English Language has gotten its origin from Latin and so is true for the Vietnamese language. The alphabetical letters of both languages are alike despite the fact that Vietnamese letters are much more than the English letters. Both the languages have taken a number of words from French and Chinese.
Syntax
SVO (Subject, Verb and Object) Order is similar in both English and Vietnamese language. Vietnamese is considered as an isolating language in which the relationship between various parts of the sentence is indicated with the help of word auxiliaries and order. Therefore, in conveying the message of the sentence words order serves as a decisive factor.
Pronunciation
Pronunciation of both English and Vietnamese language is although difficult, but if the comparison between the two languages is made so it can be ascertained that Vietnamese language is far more complex as compared to English. The words in both languages have to be properly pronounced and communicated so that the listener can better understand the context of the conversation.
