Environmental Toxicology: The Effects of Toxicants on Public Health

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to reflect upon the environmental toxicology issues in Kuwait and discuss the diseases arising as a result of the environmental toxicants in Kuwait. This paper will attempt to discuss about the problem of certain diseases that are increased among Kuwaiti people and its relationship with the toxicants in Kuwait including air pollution, electromagnetic radiations, and environmental tobacco smoke. The paper will also examine the effects of Kuwait oil fires during and after 1991 and will attempt to determine relationship between the occupation and these diseases in Kuwait. Finally, the paper will attempt to establish evidence regarding the relationship between the lifestyle and these diseases in Kuwait. The paper mainly focuses on the relationship between the increased diseases in Kuwait and the environmental issues in Kuwait. The paper also highlights on the impact of oil fires in Kuwait during 1991 and the relationship between the occupation and diseases in Kuwait. Last but not the least the paper discusses the relationship between the lifestyles and diseases in Kuwait.

Research Problem

Environmental toxicology substantially affect the health and well being of the people, and lead to the development of certain diseases most common among them are respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The phenomena has been studied widely by number of scholars all over the world, however studies exploring the problem in context of Kuwait is very much limited. Thus, the need to examine the nature of problem in Kuwait is important, so that impact of environmental toxicology on Kuwait's people can be identified, which will also help in developing preventive strategies.

Significance of the study

The significance of this study is discussed in the research problem, which clearly reveals that there is a lack of research available in context of Kuwait, which limits the government to understand the nature of problem. Eventually, the population due to absence of any preventive measures is developing diseases associated with environmental toxicology. Thus, the findings of the paper will contribute to understand the impact of environmental toxicology on Kuwait's population.

Literature Review

There are many environmental problems in Kuwait including air pollution and problems relates to water and soils. Air pollution consists of gaseous pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), and sulfur dioxide (SO2). It also contains other contaminated materials in different sizes. Because of the small size of these particles, it can be inhaled and its entry into the lungs and cause a wide range of diseases and has been associated with environmental pollution in many of the health problems suffered by the human (Sepici-Dincel, Sahin, Karasu, Sarikaya, Selvi, Erkoc & Altan, 2011). Exposure to these pollutants briefly cause heightened heart and lung disease significantly and require intensive medical care, and may lead to death in people with lung and heart disease. In the case of chronic exposure to these pollutants, there is the risk of chronic diseases of the lungs and heart to the ...
