Introduction

Most professionals recognize the mental health services as only the administration of psychiatric medications and patient referral to specialist services. But in reality the nursing care for these cases should go much further, starting to welcome and listen to the client. The paper discusses the concepts of holistic health in nursing in relation to mental Healthcare and the professional structure in Mental Healthcare and nursing. Nursing, in a recent perspective, has been the target of several attempts to define, with the objective of being able to articulate clearly the roles and functions of professional nursing. Although the development of nursing settings, there is, however, a single universally accepted definition. Classical definitions of nursing, highlight the definition formulated by Virginia Henderson (1966), which describes the role of nursing as: "to assist the individual, sick or healthy, in the performance of activities that contribute to maintain its mental health or its recovery, in such a way shall perform this function in order to make the individual as independent as possible, that is, prior to reaching its independence.”

According to this perspective, the nurse should assist the patient in meeting their needs, calling for self-care and, in any case, replace the person in activities that it can perform for you. Note that the model of Henderson still wields enormous influence, both within the discipline of nursing as the profession.
