Introduction

Fashion clothing is the result produced by mental conditions as religious belief, magic aesthetic and social situation. The difference of races, the gesture of imitation and covering the body is a physical and mental reason (Howell 2010:14). We begin by describing the fashion of European countries for being the oldest and most experienced in the clothing. Especially in France as the continent most dominant fashion. It is called the most prominent designers in the art of creation have been mostly French and English. American fashion was considerably influenced from European fashion. Fashion design differs from costume design due to the transience of the core product, which is usually limited to one or two seasons. It is generally considered to have started in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth (Howell 2010:17), however, classical roots of fashion can be found in 16th as well as 19th centuries. This paper will explore classic pieces of fashion design and trace their use in the present and future.

Fashion in Sixteenth Century

For this century many cultural changes occurred in America. These changes resulted from the clash of different cultures. During this period attempted to reinforce more physical beauty. The designs of costumes were of luxurious materials, fabrics and heavy showy. The thick embroidery, jewelry and sumptuous airy lace were seen everywhere. The costumes in line A were the most used, together with asymmetric straps (Peterson 2008:125).

The inner” changes that brought about the Renaissance, such as thinking the philosophy of humanism, were accompanied by almost as drastic changes in appearance. The tall and slim-profile, fitting attire of the gothic dresses gave way to considerable size. The feminine silhouette was manipulated by one hand, a tight bodice, which was obtained a slim waist, and also the bell-shaped skirt that accentuated the hips. Padded sleeves made it even more impressive, though not particularly elegant (Tierney 1998). This mode was characterized also determined not by convenience. Thus the impressive costumes of the 16th century Queen Elizabeth I of England certainly have contributed to preventing its awesome.

The crinoline in the fashion and the dresses were in size was increased to a circumference of 2.5 to 3 meters (Scheips 2007:79). Women were considered their overskirt slightly to lift, so as to show the petticoat. Also sleeves were very bulky; they were almost as wide as the body.
