Field Trip Capstone Experience - Botanical Garden San Francisco

Introduction

The botanical garden is a ravine which houses great biodiversity of flora and fauna that can be used as bedding plants steadily vanishing as areas for ecotourism. It is a rich resource for education in ecology and environment for domestic and international tourists and for the same Moyobambinos. Of special interest to students that they can even visit the organic garden to see plants, uses and also the importance of ecology and the environment. The San Francisco Botanical Garden is a beautiful place where everyone can enjoy tour of the various medicinal trees like dragon's blood, as the watering fruit trees and bread tree, timber trees such as white cedar and other plants as the nail of cat. There are also a variety of flowers like the beak of a parrot, the staff of the emperor and other heliconias. The flowers attract butterfly and there was a butterfly that is in the process of preparing and filled with butterflies as the owl butterfly. Last weekend a trip was arranged to visit the Botanical Garden of San Francisco, in order to make students to get in depth understanding of the plants and their adaptation with the environment.

Native Plants

The native plant collections at the San Francisco Botanical Garden (SFBG) displayed a condensed version of some of the natural habitats and provided the material for a living lesson in how first people made use of the plants in their environment. This visit was designed to help students make the most of their visit. It included some general background information to share with class about visit, activities to help prepare for the walk, other activities to extend the experience back in the classroom, and bibliography of useful materials. Some of the very useful information all the students got from the visit and in addition to introducing students to a number of native plants and their uses, the garden walk was designed to illustrate four basic concepts:

Native plants are plants that were growing in California before plants from other parts of the world were introduced.

Native plants helped provide almost everything the native people of the Bay Area needed to live, including food, medicine, shelter, tools, crafts, transportation, and recreation.

Through years of observing and experimenting, the Indians of this area learned when and where to collect and how to store and use the many plants in their environment.
