Variety

It is the opportunity to use a variety of skills and abilities in job performance. The employee started to feel that no such tasks were being assigned to her that requires her skills and abilities to utilize and polish further. There was no learning process during her work.

Identity

It is the opportunity to perform a whole, identifiable piece of work. The kind of task that had been assigned to the employee was excessive with little requirement of skills, which on completion, never got recognized in any form. She needed a complete assignment that requires effort and a recognition or appraisal on completion.

Significance

It is the perception that the work performed or product produced is important to someone. The employee also needed that whatever she does, must possess significance.

Lack of motivation

An employee can never justify with his work unless he is keep on motivated. In this case, the employee never got any recognition for her work which made her demotivated.

All the above mentioned factors may be addressed with improvements. The employee may be assigned significant tasks that require her skills and efficiency. Being a manager, Malik should tackle the situation tactfully. He should offer different incentives and also assign significant tasks that would be requiring her skills to make it done. Performance appraisal for all her past work should also be given. All these steps would revive the motivation level of the employee following the employee retention ultimately.
