Future Warfare

Introduction

Warfare refers to engagement in a conflict with opponent party. Warfare may be economic warfare, biological warfare, chemical warfare, technological warfare, guerilla warfare, or any kind of warfare which includes war with the opponent. Opponents may engage in war due to the difference of opinion and view, to which both parties strictly adhere and posing a threat to each other's interests in the contemporary war strategies.

Whether it is nuclear proliferation, or biological warfare, technology plays a vital role. It is not the size of the military that matters today, but the technological advancement that brings victory. Whether the war is fought in the battlefield with weapons, or from a distance through propaganda, it is the technology which decides or at least supports and eases the victory.

Things have changed after the World War II. So is the case with warfare. Warfare today, is not an ordinary warfare, but a Modern Warfare. This term is coined because of the revolution in the warfare strategies. The new warfare is also called as subversive warfare or revolutionary warfare. This kind of warfare is different from the traditional warfare in which victory would not be a merely a goal that two opponents would fight to achieve in the battlefield. Rather, the modern warfare is the interlinked system of battles-political, psychological, economical, and military-aiming at overthrowing the existing ruling authority and in order to achieve this objective, the attacker tries his best to take advantage of the internal- social, economic, ideological, and religious- or any issue that is helpful in gaining control over the population of the enemy country (Trinquier, 1964). These lines, although not directly, but indirectly illustrates the important of technology in the modern warfare, as all these warfare actions are not possible without technology. This kind of warfare implies extensive propaganda against the enemy, which would require an efficient media and information technology. The power of spreading propaganda messages against an enemy, with the modern and latest Information Technology tools, is unmatched. Messages can be conveyed and distributed to as many people as possible through many channels, including internet and electronic media. Again, technology could be used to stop this propaganda.

Military technology played, plays, and is likely to play a vital role in victory against enemies in war.

Robots and War

Robots are playing a vital role in the modern warfare. Robots are the outcome of the modern technology. In the future, it is assumed as the mean to fight against enemies. Taranis is an example of a huge shift towards this kind of defense system; Robotic machines that are capable of taking their decisions regardless of external human input, thus having the potential to modify the method of modern warfare radically. Technologically advanced countries such as US and UK, are seeking autonomy as a method to longer access, much efficiency and effectiveness. Armed robots are able to take care of themselves, in many military tasks. Israel is also using robotic technology against ...
