Abstract

Gambling can be defined as wagering of money or something material in possession of a person over an uncertain outcome of an event. It is involved in games of different nature. It is an activity which has strong tendency to become an addiction. Its addiction is almost similar to that of a drug. A person involved in this activity often finds it hard to quit and the only solution for him to refrain from this activity is to have a psychological treatment. The following paper is about the gambling addiction and the conditions which lead towards the development of this habit. In addition to that it discusses about the different issues that are related to it. In addition, the paper discusses about the possible treatments that can help a person to desist from this evil act.

Introduction

Gambling is a non-chemical addiction, recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a disease. The International Classification of ICD-10 pathological gambling is placed in the group eating disorders and impulses (pulses). Disorder is often repeated gambling that prevails in a man's life to the detriment of values and social obligations, occupational, physical, and family. Games are accompanied by people from many generations starting from the card games, horseracing, slot machines and up to the games. Today, among the institutions involved in the organization of gambling games such distinguished sweepstakes, casinos, lotteries, gaming (Hoffmann, 2011).

The game not only provides entertainment, fun, companionship, but also attracts the chance of winning big money. People are able to generate good amount of money if they win which increases their interest in the game. It is a kind of passion, which encourages the prospect of a possible win. The game allows you to get away from the depressing reality in a world full of exciting emotions. If a person wins then things proceed in a sound manner however, if he loses then the real trauma begins. Pathological (disease) playing is defined by the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems ICD-10 as abnormal behavior or loss of control over impulses. It is also distinguished by the abuse of playing manic patients. Mania is a disease manifested considerable excitement, depression with agitation motor and unreasonable mood swings. In addition, separate from gambling is to play with personality disorder, characterized by a disregard for social obligations and loss of feeling, which is particularly common among prisoners (Hoffmann, 2011).

Pathological game stands out is often chronic and the increasing propensity to gamble, despite the negative social consequences, such as debt, crumbling family life and neglect of professional duties.
