GAY MARRIAGE

Why Gay Marriage is wrong?

Why Gay Marriage is wrong?

Introduction

The purpose of this discussion is to engage in a research based evaluation of the disadvantages of same sex marriage that make it an unviable option. The discussion will build on the premise that proponents of same sex marriage consider it to be incapable of causing any form of collateral damage. Based on this understanding, the discussion will highlight the disadvantages of same sex marriage in order to identify that the (assumed and alleged) undamaging consequences of same sex marriage do not adequately substantiate the acceptance of same sex marriage as a regular part of society.

Discussion & Analyses

With the homosexual lobby increasing the momentum of the movement, it has become imperative to realize that the concept of the family as an institution will alter significantly as homosexual marriages increase in number. As the density of homosexual marriages in neighborhoods continue to increase, so will the manner in which neighborhoods function (Allen, 2006). In essence, the nuclear family will undergo a significant change. As a result, it is only natural for society to undergo an alteration that will change the way it functions. In addition, it merits highlighting that society will have to come to terms with the new structure of the family. For instance, social service institutions and similar organizations will have to ensure that their operating procedures have the necessary flexibility to deal with same sex marriages.

The impact of gay marriage on children is a subject that remains under the spotlight even though it has remained a primary priority for the stakeholders of society (Dan, et. al. 2000). The homosexual lobby asserts that the decision of gay individuals to exercise their sexual orientation is a part of their basic human rights. They are of the opinion that they are citizens of an independent land and therefore have all the right to exercise that independence with regard to their partners. The homosexual lobby also makes use of cultural references to homosexuality that are present in the pages of history (Kramer, 1997). They exercise an increased level of fervor since they believe that society has stifled their right to exercise their orientation.

Overall homosexuality, one of three main categories of sexual orientation, along with bisexuality and heterosexuality, may be defined within psychiatry as an attribute, quality or characteristic of a being - human or otherwise - that feels physical attraction, emotional and aesthetic by another being of the same sex (Pierceson & Gill, 2009). As a sexual orientation, homosexuality refers to an enduring pattern of sexual experiences, emotional and romantic especially among people of the same sex, the term also refers to an individual with a sense of personal and social identity based on those attractions expressing behaviors and adhering to a community of people who share the same sexual orientation.
