Introduction

Research suggests that thousands of people die every day and every week and the means of getting killed are gun shots. Gun shots also have the ability to injure the individual in a severe manner. Some of the common outcomes of gun shots are spinal cord injury, shattered bones and ribs which results in broken families and broken hearts. The problem of gun violence is so intense and serious that if viewed and analyzed as a disease, it may be classified as an epidemic.

Gun Violence

Gun is manmade vector which is bad for health though it may be the cause of violence but it can aggravate and multiply the results and outcomes in a dramatic manner. Violence can in social contextual situation such as poverty, unemployment, injustice, frustration, jealousy and in such volatile situations; addition of gun would be equivalent to adding fuel to fire. Gun violence can be classified into Homicide, Robbery and Aggravated assault. Homicide has been referred to as killing of one human being by another that is willful and non negligent action on the part of the murderer. It is also referred to as murder or non negligent murder in simple language.

Robbery on the other hand is a case of firearm which involves taking something valuable from a person on the basis of firearm or weapons to put the victim in fear and less powerful position. Aggravated assault is also a case of firearm which makes use of weapon or involves threatening a person with firearm for the purpose of hurting others and causing severe body injury. Guns are far more dangerous than other weapons or tools used for killing such as fists, knives as their usage results in confirmed death of the person getting hurt in majority of situations.

The main purpose of gun is to kill are even the wounds and injuries caused by guns are far more severe and difficult to health than other weapons as it completely damages the surrounding tissues as well. Presence of gun in any situation stops the people in surroundings to help or pacify with the victims due to increased intensity of situation in terms of severity and damage (Police Executive Research Forum, 2012).
