Redesigning Hershey's Performance Management System

It is important for any organization to determine its employee's responsibilities as well as involvement in regards to creating an atmosphere within the organization that helps generating efficiency and effectiveness. HPWS, which refers to High Performance Work System, is a designated term that sets management practices in the organization helping to build the required efficiency and effectiveness among the employees along with their dedicated involvements and measures of their responsibilities (Bohlander, 2004). In a more specific uniform analysis, High Performance Work System provides a specific combination for the organization in respect to developing combinations of work structures, HR practices, and other process that leads to such tendencies, which focus on the development and enhancement of employee knowledge, skills, flexibilities, and commitments.

According to the case analysis, Hershey's can implement High Performance Work System within the organization in order to appeal the diverse groups in the organization. It is recommended that Hershey's implement a redesign within the organization so that the managers can maximize the utilization of knowledge workers. The maximization of utilizing the knowledge workers can be done through mentoring and other attributes when connecting with the employees. Moreover, it would be important to release the concept of knowledge workers in the organization, as they are the employees whose contributions are essential to the organization. Knowledge workers carry specialized knowledge, which could promote the well being and success of the organization such as knowledge regarding process, profession, and customers.

In the continuation of the case analysis, it is found that Hershey's is well equipped with the baby boomers who believe in specialization and are focused on premier knowledge about the customers, process and other functions that attribute to the performance management (Bohlander, 2004). In addition, the baby boomers are enthusiastic about implementing the knowledge and leaving the legacy.

Moving further when conceptualizing the younger generation and its eagerness to face challenges, it is recommended to consider the empowerment of employees in the redesigning stage. Similar to such indications, HPWS offers the empowerment of employees as the performance management system respects the employee empowerment providing an opportunity for the employees to self-structure their decisions, which leads to a direct impact on the immediate environment, which leads to positively influencing the whole organization. Furthermore, the implementation of HPWS will lead the organization with employee motivation and satisfaction along with a dedicated workforce.
