Introduction

Back in the 1970s, African American communities gave rise to the subculture of Hip hop music. This was originated in New York City, in Bronx to be precise. This term is often referred to hip hop music, when we look at it from the boarder view, it is the hip hop culture which consists of rapping, graffiti, hip hop dance and DJ-ing.

This subculture originated n block parties where a person also known as a Disk Jockey would play a song and then mix other disks together to create a mash up of music. The DJ who started this was by the name of KoolHerc who used his own shouts at the dancing crowds on top of the already playing songs. Herc, since then is known as the 'father' of DJ-ing this art form of music. Ever since the creation of this art form, this type of music art has spread all over the urban and the suburban communities around the globe.

Background

Disc Jockeys shouts over the music later gave rise to 'rap'. Rap came into being when the chanting over a song was liked by many and this gained popularity everywhere. Then came the era where another art form was born: Rap. In this type of music, a singer just chants the lyrics without actually singing it and the music in the background is more emphasizing. At time, poetry is recited over the music. The popularity of this type of music became more famous and was liked by a great majority, especially the younger generation.
