Introduction

The services provided by both organized charity movements and settlement house movement are almost same but the approach for carrying out each of the activity seem to have been different from each other. Both charity organizations and settlement houses furnish worth to the neighborhoods they serve. Notwithstanding, they work in extremely distinctive ways. Settlement houses are planned to serve a group of individuals by offering a wide reach of aids, while charities raise supports for different creates and conglomerations. The grandest distinction between a settlement house and a charity is in the medicine of people. The most celebrated around the world arrangement home in US was Hull-House of Chicago (Zeien, 2012). In the history Jane Adams and Hull House has done significant work on the organized charity movement and the settlement house movement. Admitting that it was not the pioneer of US settlement, hull-house came to represent the specific mark of exploration, aid, and change that was to describe a great part of the US settlement house movement. Jane Addams and her companion, moved into a pitiable migrant locality in Chicago. This paper discusses the differences between the approaches of the settlement house movements and organized charity movements to the concept of helping. It also analyzes the significance and importance of Jane Adams and Hull house in the progression and development of settlement house movements and organized charity movements.

Research objective

The objective of the research is to find the difference between the approaches of the organized charity movement and the settlement house movement to helping and what is the impact of the Jane Adams and Hull House on the approaches?

Problem statement

By conducting this research we will try to find that which approach of house movement is better for the society.

The research will discuss the approaches of the organized charity movement and the settlement house movement to helping people of the society and the work that Jane Adams and Hull House has done for the well being of the society as whole.

Literature Review

The study of Trattner (1999) describes that by the end of the 19th century, there was a shift in the population that affected the service delivery to needy people in the society. The two significant population shifts were identified as migration of people from rural areas to urban areas and the immigration of people from abroad. According to the estimates, during that time the population of immigrants in the cities increased to a significant level from one sixth to one half and amounted to approximately 14 million immigrants (Trattner, 1999). Due to this reason, the urban areas became populated leading to several issues and problems in the cities for the people and the governments. As a response, the organized charity movements and the settlement house movements were started in order to solve the problems of the people living in urban areas.
