Section 1

The author has discussed about Honest and Dishonest Grafts. There is a difference between both of them. The honest graft is the people who become rich with devotion and dedication in the politics. On the other hand, the dishonest grafts are gamblers, people with out ethical values. As Plunkitt says, “Yes, many of our men have grown rich in politics. I have myself. I've made a big fortune out of the game, and I'm gettin' richer every day, but I've not gone in for dishonest graft, blackmailin' gamblers, saloon-keepers, disorderly people, etc and neither have any of the men who have made big fortunes in politics” (Plunkitt, pp. 1).

Plkunkit earned his money by purchasing land via his network and social setting. He was aware of the fact that he would be required for public projects. He would purchase these parcels, and then sell them again at an inflated price (Plunkitt, pp. 1).

According to Plunkitt dishonest graft are the people who faked their identity behind the veil of having a “higher status” than others. In his view, these people were selfish and had no love for their country and no love for their fellow citizens. Plunkitt being a part of the Air Force Army shows that he not only felt responsible but also obligated to serve his country and play a role in saving the people of the United States (Dreier & Cohen, http://www.dissentmagazine.org/online_articles/wal-marts-honest-graft).
