How can an “ergonomics approach” reduce the potential for major disasters?

Abstract

The study is based on the ergonomics approach whose major focus is on the reduction of the prospective for major disasters like Hillsborough Stadium Disaster. The officials responsible for the disaster should know that the ergonomics is the science and occupational health and safety practice. The work place conditions for Hillsborough Stadium disaster indicate that the most apparent workplace issue was a communication problem. Decision making was ineffective and slow that guides anxiety. Moreover, the errors that relate to communication were the key aspects of the Hillsborough stadium disaster. Besides it, the good quality of technical measures does not guarantee the achievement of high safety effects that can reduce the potential for major disasters.

Introduction

The study focuses on the ergonomics approach which particularly emphasizes on the reduction on the potential for major disasters. Moreover, the ergonomics approach is discussed in relation to Hillsborough Stadium Disaster, which took place on 15th April 1989. This disaster is considered as the most terrible football disaster in history of United Kingdom. The objectives of ergonomics are similar to those in the science of safety.
