How do the Different Schools of Thought in International Relations Interact with and Influence Security Theories

Introduction

For the last two centuries, states have engaged into arm race, and mass destruction with an objective to conquer the world. In the fulfilment of their aims, they totally forgot their country men and their basic need for survival. These cruel intentions kept the world on the verge of war for almost half century, and it caused nothing but the loss of human lives, hatred spreading everywhere with doomed hope for life. At that time, different schools of thought stepped in to study the political scenarios and economies of nations in the international context. These schools were a composite of people from different backgrounds and advocates of different international relations approaches.

Their writing collections and debates worked as a beam of hope and spread awareness among the common people and the rulers. Their work in the respective domains not only gave birth to the study of different disciplines but also had influence on security theories. These two joined together to help the European economies stand back on their feet and plan precautious for the time ahead. At times, they stood at the same side and at times they were the opponents to each other.

International relations are a renowned concept in political sciences, which exhibits external relations among states, people, nations and international organizations. Extensive research studies were conducted to observe the changes in the international politics and develop a framework to be implemented at states level. This essay aims to discuss the schools of thought in international relations, what roles they have played in this discipline and how they approached the security theories. In short, the way these schools interact with and influence theories of security.

Discussion

Since the creation of this world, mankind has been struggling for its survival in harmony. It dates back to the fights on even small piece of land, as societies grew so these issues of survival. Gradually, a new concept of international relations emerged with the formation of states and nations. Along with these, few paradigms and approaches were lied down to safeguard the sovereignty of countries and bring peace in the world.

The concept can be traced back to the studies of the ancient Greek historian Thucydides. However, proper formulation of the concept as a separate discipline appeared in the 20th century when an organized effort was made to find alternatives to war in the international behaviour of nation-state (www.thefreedictionary.com). In modern times, the term IR is used to show relationship between states and non-state organizations (Wilkinson, 2010, pp. 2).
