The Concept of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

CPD is a systematic approach that helps to make sure that there is capability to practice, knowledge to achieve, along with skills and practical experience to succeed. CPD can engage any significant learning activity, be it formal and planned or informal and autonomous.

Importance of Continuous Professional Development

The people succeed in the careers are those who remain in regular employment and embrace change whole heartedly while also improving their skills. Technology is updating and modifying itself daily and everyone has an eye on what's the next technological update. It doesn't matter if you are a freelancer or an employee, Continuing Professional Development should be an integral part of your life plan. It is very necessary that you keep yourself updated with the new technology, innovations, trends and activities.

CIPDs HR Profession Map Effectiveness in an HR Role as per the CIPD HR Map

The CIPD HR Profession Map gives an elaborate view of how HR augments the greatest continuous value to the organizations in which it operates not only in the present but also in the future. It merges the utmost standards of professional proficiency with the closest alliance to one's organizational goals, in order to deliver unremitting performance.

It confines what HR people do and convey across every facet and specialism of the profession keeping an eye of the key skills, behavior and knowledge that they need in order to be victorious. It also outlines an apparent and adaptable framework for career succession, keeping in mind that both HR roles and career succession differ (Tyson, 1995, pp. 110-125).

Professional areas

There are about a10 professional areas outlined in the Map. For every area, the Map elaborates the activities to be done and knowledge about the four bands of professional competence, along with defining the main behaviors that you should display when executing the activities.

Behaviors

This section of the Map describes the behaviors in detail that are required to carry out activities. Each behavior is divided into four bands of professional competence while each behavior also puts down a quantity of contra indicators which demonstrate negative behavior

Bands and transitions

There are four bands of professional competence to mirror the chain of command of every profession within the Map. The Map also highlights and describes how one can change and develop to move from one band to another.

1. One of the professional areas emphasizes on relationships that the HR people have with clients whether you provide them with support, advice, etc.
