Introduction

Laughter consists of a subjective affective elements (the sense of “laughter”), and an expressive element that is observable (vocalizations and gestures we know as “laughter”). As in the case of other emotions, affective and expressive components of laughter are activated from a cognitive interpretation of a reality.  In many societies, the emotional expressions are used in ways that may seem unusual. Weston La Barre specifically cited the laughter as an example of cultural diversity: Laughter is, in a sense, a variable geographically (Wild et al., 2003, p.2122).

The meaning given to it the “black laughter” is due to the mistake of assuming that similar symbols have identical meanings. So even though, the same behaviour is physiologically present can be a derivative of one's culture and emotions therefore, vary in its behaviour and functions and seems different to the ones who are observing it for the first time. In fact, even within the same culture, teenage girls laughing and the laughter of presidents of a company may be functionally distinct. Connecting with people through humour can be very difficult, depending on the country and its culture. American humour is a little different than the British humour. With jokes, movies, TV shows, etc., one will notice a difference in style of comedy. This research is about the understanding of British humour and American humour by using text messages.

Discussion

The second theory of humour is the most popular model for resolving inconsistencies, which involves solving a paradox or inconsistency in the manner of game (Martin, 2010, p. 65). The theory is based on the relationship in the human brain between the laughable and illogical. As a species, we value logic, but even impossible to accept a situation or while highly unlikely scenario in the cartoon is at least coherent and consistent with your theme. First, expectations about the meaning of a joke or cartoon are undermined by the punch line (key phrase joke or entry of a cartoon). This pushes us to a set of problem solving in order to resolve the discrepancy. When we got it, the pieces fall into place and experience the joy that comes with the understanding. If we fail feel some discomfort.

Literature Review

Humour and Laughter

Humour is a distinctly human quality. As such, its variants have psychological and even semiotic dimensions that could be considered specific. It is hollow, excessive and inappropriate in the frontal syndrome, easy, effervescent, spontaneous and sometimes contagious mania; absent until the point that the patient is unable to respond to laughable stimuli in depression and antinormico and idiosyncratic in schizophrenia, in which seems to be a deficit in the perception or appreciation of humour (Martin, 2001, p. 504).

Social-Cognitive-Affective Phenomenon

One of the best known experts on the matter, Rod Martin (2008) defines humour as a social-cognitive-affective phenomenon (Dunbar et al., 2012, p. 1162). In their affection, humour implies a specific positive emotion that the author calls “rejoice” (mirth), similar to other positive emotions such ...
