Dance can be identified as a form of physical art, where the artist has to captivate the audience through their body movements. In this scenario the ability of the dancer to achieve challenging physical forms and movements, can be highlighted as positive dancing attributes. The majority of the dancers spends a significant part of their life, in the process of developing their skills and attains the maximum control of their bodies. The life of a professional dancer is very challenging and difficult, as he/she has developed their body in the optimal dancing state (Bird & Foley, pp. 586). The psychical requirements for the life of a dancer can lead to several medical concerns in the later stages, where the burden of arduous physical exercises takes the toll on the body. However the dancers have to make sure that they are able to develop their bodies through which they can aptly perform their physical artistic expressions.
Hypermobility can be identified as a desired attribute by a dancer; however it may also lead to several complications. The objective of a professional dancer is not focus too much on the safe and the conventional routines; rather they want to achieve unique physical achievements. In this context the hypermobility can be perceived as a positive condition, through which the dancer should be able to push the limits of their physical abilities (Klemp & Learmonth, pp. 144). The professional dancers want to portray their artistic expressions through the movements of their bodies, and hence their ability to attain high level of flexibility would enhance this expression. Dancers go through years of training and skills development to ensure that their bodies are able to support their artistic expression, and they can captivate the audience through the unique physical movements.
Hypermobility in Dancers
As mentioned the ability of a dancer to push the physical limits is generally considered as a positive attribute, as it allows them to perform more challenging form of dance. This attraction to the highly flexible body form can drive to the teachers and the young dancers to strive for hypermobility (Foley & Bird, pp. 455). Over the years several significant dancers have been able to achieve the greatest feats in dance, through their ability to contort their bodies in unique physical forms. This state however is not just eth product of training and skill development, ra5her it sis the byproduct of a medical condition. The inherited physical traits of the dancers have a significant impact on their ability to proceed in the professional dancing careers. These dancer who generally have tightly bound muscles and limited physique, are not able to perform the dance routines which are required at a professional level . These inherent genes do not allow their bodies to take the physical position which are desired by the professional dancers.
