Introduction

The election-year white house announcement about the policy of allowing selective illegal immigrants to get respite from getting deported and provided them legal cover to work for up to 5 years. The policy itself is a short term solution as accepted by the administration also till they make a proper legislation to cater the immigration issues.

While the effort is plausible as something has been done to cater the issue for the rights of the illegal immigrants who have been living, studying and contributing to economy of the United States, it has not solved the problem of legal status of these entities (Gates, 2007). We will be evaluating the criticism received on this policy in general and will focus on contribution of illegal immigrants and immigrants in particular to the American economy. The role immigrants can play in reviving the economic downturn is also discussed in this paper. We have also reviewed different perspectives on the immigration law of the country and people's fears for awarding citizen ship to immigrants.

Discussion

The election-year white house statement about the policy of allowing selective illegal immigrants to get interval from getting deported and provided them legal cover to work for up-to 5 years. The policy itself is a short term answer as accepted by the administration also till they make a proper legislation to cater the immigration issues. This policy while some might term it as a positive initiative faced strong reaction in Georgia State where they are emphasizing for immigrations laws enforcement. The arguments given by the Georgia's critics state it is a political decision and the main idea is to gain political leverage while the real issue has been side lined. They highlighted the demographics of the illegal immigrant's population to be 425,000 (Redmon & Chavez, 2012). It was also criticized that government took similar short term measures last year but failed to address issue. There are over 300,000 deportation cases currently being processed in the courts and government has been only able to solve a small percentage of these cases with the help of manual intervention of “prosecutorial discretion” and this measure will also end up the same way (Fairlie, 2008).
