Introduction

Tourism always has a huge impact on the economy of any county and a country having a good number of tourists has good economic conditions. Here in this research article we have tried to explain the impact of marketing a mega sports event on the South African economy. Whenever a mega event FIFA is hosted by a country chances, are that the country is going earn a lot in the form of contemporary tourists and future tourists. This event gave a chance to the first-time tourists as well as those who have visited SA in the past to witness the two oceans, vast landscapes, rivers, deserts, canyons, mountains and the diversified cultures across the nine countries in one trial. The literature about mega events is full of developmental benefits of these events. The tourism increases, the chance to alleviate poverty grow. SA with the vision to alleviate poverty and unemployment by 2014, took the opportunity of hosting 2010 FIFA world cup to fast-track the economic development through tourism and foreign investments. The agenda of development is related to tourists and visitors of sports event. As, it helps in construction of different disadvantaged areas, and further developmental initiatives

Research Question/Hypothesis

“To test the impact of marketing on the success of tourism”

In context to the case study of FIFA world cup 2010 South Africa.

Objectives and Aims

The overall objective of this case study is to find out how hosting a major sports event like FIFA World Cup helps a country to attract tourists and boost the economy.

Methods:

The Methodology I adopt to conduct this research is Survey. The survey will be conducted through online literature, questionnaires, interviews of tourists and officials. The key focus of this research would be through these two Surveys:

Background and significance

From the Olympics of the Ancient Greece start, the history of mega events and these are not a recent phenomenon. However, now there is a difference in the situation as the interest to such events is worldwide and there is a huge effect on income and people are devoting more time to such activities. (Adranovich et al. 2001)

Like all great athletes who look up to mega sports event to show their talent and gain fame, the countries who host these events also aspire to achieve gains like fame. These host cities or countries take this as an opportunity to show the word that they can perform really well, and they can do better than anyone. The hosting of a leading sports event is a very hectic job but the question is why they play hosts? The answer to this question is very simple, that is, they play host because it is an opportunity for them to shape the future of the country, especially the tourism sector gets enormous effect.
