How workplace bullying is negatively impacting on employees in Denver Metro area and how organizations can fight against it?

Introduction

The bullying workplace is just like a childhood bullying, in which groups or individuals reflects their unreasonable behavior or aggressiveness against subordinate or co-workers. Bullying at workplace can include nonverbal, verbal, physical abuse, psychological abuse and humiliation (Eddy, 2008). The majority cases of Bullying in the workplace are the management's perpetration who humiliates their subordinates for minor mistakes. The Denver metro area is the capital of Colorado which is facing number of issues regarding workplace bullying. These bullying often leaves the negative impacts over employees and also spoil the culture of company and employee's morale.

Effects of Bullying on Victims

The bullying of Workplace could cause greater number of health problems for employees that includes many psychological and physical injuries or illnesses. However, the reaction of the action depends on person to person. It has been observed that those people who experience bully at work can have anxiety, sleeping trouble, stress and panic attacks (Heather, 2001). They might experience high ulcers, blood pressure and other illnesses regarding stress. There are another evidences that shows bullied employee usually face trouble in their decision making, concentrating issues, less productivity and loss of self esteem (Dutton, 2007). Particularly, the less productivity is driven by the low motivation, health and stress complaints. However, it can also cause grouping of employee and planning to handle the situation (Heather, 2001).

Causes of Bullying

Workplace bullying gives a feeling of isolation and the employee might suffer from eating disorders, post-traumatic stress, depression, and even to suicide. In the case of Apple Inc, Chinese workers attempted to suicide due to bullying at workplace and non-payment of extra working hours. As the matter of fact, bullying can make a person traumatized they find themselves confused, disoriented, helpless and powerless. Moreover, a research done at the University of Manitoba found that workplace bullying imposes more harm on employees than sexual harassment (Bryner, 2008). It is important to notice that bullied employees reflects more stressful work, less commitments to the organizations and high levels of anger and anxiety than sexually harassed workers. On the other hand, one more research defines that people who are pushed around at the workplace are more likely to need medication (Bryner, 2008). The investigators at the University Of Helsinki Department Of Public Health discovered that bullied employees used to be prescribed psychotropic medications such as sleeping pills, tranquilizers or antidepressants (Eddy, 2008).
