Introduction

United States is well recognized for attaining the absolute distinction of preserving the world's largest prison. The rate of prisoner in jails is increasing dramatically. It can also be defined as 2.3 million i.e. 700 are imprisoned in 100,000 populations (Pattillo, Weiman, 2006). This rate is five to eight times higher than the industrialized nation. Mass imprisonments play a vital role in reducing crimes. On the other side, the offenders who are imprisoned burden on their family and community. If the children are imprisoned, it is negative for parents to live in society and away from the child. If they are parents, then the child will bear all the problems and difficulties. The imprisonment can reduce the crime, but the families, community, relatives, and other aspects of society face negativity and it simultaneously reflect on their lives (Beale, Clear, Waring, p. 33-64).

The family suffers equally if a member of family is imprisoned.

Discussion

It is natural fact that the prison sentence imposed on the offender only, but the implications of this punishment extends to all members of his family, especially if the prisoner is the only breadwinner of the family, and range from the negative effects experienced by the prisoner's family by building a family, but these effects occur imbalance prominent in the construction and function of these families. It brings imbalance in the family and bring lots of disruptions specially the children in the family (Herival, p.29).

Impact on Family

The person imprisoned is not only affected with the trouble and depression, but it is also their family member who has to face the society and bear negative comments of people. The family members of the person who is imprison has to face Psychological burden, social stigma, and financial strains. The mass imprisonment has affected various regions at a greater level. The number of children whose parent is in prison affects the most (Lynch, 2007). The childhood of these children severely disturbed if their parent is in a jail. This is the mainstream experience in low-income groups. Child of a criminal represents a child as a criminal.

There are some single parents children whose parent is imprisoned face a miserable life and become a potential criminal because of the social stigma. If the children of imprisoned, parents are not consulted they will be future criminals. On the other side, if children are imprisoned the parents need emotional and financial support (Bruckner, Bruckner, 2006). The police do not consider the effect of arresting prisoner at night from home these activities set their family to traumatic experience. The judges do their work for justice, but the financial and emotional support to their families is ignored. The suffering of prisoner's family and community are the vulnerable section of society.
