Proposed Title

The title proposed for this research is as following: 'Impact on healthcare users of contemporary art work in Healthcare organizations.”

Main Subject Area

Recently many healthcare organizations are increasing their focus towards providing a better environment to the employees and the visitors to these organizations. In order to create an environment healthcare providers use different kinds of architectures to make people happy, comfortable and might increase the knowledge of the visitors. Thus the subject area of this research will be to find out the effect that either the art work will have a positive impact on healthcare users or vice versa.

Aim of the Research

The main of this research proposal is to find out the effects of art work in healthcare organizations and on the healthcare providers. In order to conduct the research different secondary sources will be used that will help in gathering more information regarding the effects of architecture on the healthcare providers and users. Timescale proposed for the research is of two to three weeks.

Discussion of the Topic

In UK there are many new hospitals opening that have a lot of public arts that was commissioned by different artists. There was a lot of imaginative architecture and modern time's interior design that changed the unpleasant environment of the healthcare organizations towards a better environment for the hospitals. Many people in the beginning criticised the art work as they gave their view that this increasing amount of resources spend were diverting the money that could have been used to pay provide better medical facilities. Apart from the criticism, a lot of efforts have been made to make this transformation happen and achieve its desired goals. In order to transform the environment of the healthcare organizations a lot of funding has been collected outside the NHS and the healthcare organizations staff, employees and other people have been consulted to provide their input so that art work could provide a better environment for all the users of the healthcare organisation.

The increased focused on the art work started off since 1970 and gained importance in 1990 when Private Finance Initiative was introduced. Now there are a large number of hospitals that have state of the art work in the interiors of their healthcare organizations. The art work can be found on the floors, ceilings, walls, on the hospital building and on several other places. In order to commissioned the art work professional artists were hired that used traditional to contemporary which included work of ceramics, wood carving, paintings, use of textile and many other kinds of materials to an environment that is able to provide a pleasant environment. Apart from the human effects of the art work, it also helped patients, visitors, employees and newly appointed staff to easily navigate their places inside huge hospitals. Thus artwork is also used as guidance for many people using the facility of healthcare organizations.
