Thesis Statement

This paper will shed light on the various instructional design models, comparing and contrasting the different approaches to learning.

Dick and Carey Instructional Design Model

The Dick and Carey model is amongst those instructional design models which are highly influential. The ADDIE model is made up of the main conventional elements, namely analysis, development, design, implementation and evaluation. Complexities arise where these elements, through various terminologies, are narrowed to different methods. The designers must put an end to the objectives which have been accomplished and contained in the product, in addition to the measurable outcomes, according to Brant. The process of design is represented by the process which is utilized by various departments, such as businesses, corporate sectors, instructions aided by the computer, the military and the government.

The Dick and Carey model is made up of sequences and steps which are nine altogether, and are based on a procedure. The components are reliant on one another, as can be illustrated by the lines of solid arrows in the directions shown. The learned people's behavior is entered and the analysis of instruction is re-examined, and it is formed by lines which are represented by dots. Various steps which are sequential form the core of the design, such as the assessment and identification of goals, learners' analysis, carrying out analysis of the instruction and context, writing of the objectives of the performance, with aid and assistance from evaluation of a formative nature. Furthermore, other steps include the revision of form which is based on instruction, the assessment and development of techniques and gadgets, the selection of the appropriate material for instruction and the development of strategies.

The specifications mentioned above point to the fact that the Dick and Carey model is governed by a form which is linear, while it is apparent that none of the processes can work on their own or in an independent capacity. According to a particular company, the model's approach, which is completely systematic, has resulted in success, as a result of being aimed at the objectives of the learners and the achievements that they make, prior to the stage of planning. Moreover, there is a strong connection between knowledge (which is the strategy of instruction), outcomes of learning and targeted skills.

Therefore, this process of design is pragmatic and replicable, and it can be employed on various occasions and for different learners, thus is an important process of design. A competent and effective team is responsible for carrying out work in departments of processing of design, like a designer of instruction. In addition, the team may consist of specialists like media producer, evaluator, content specialist and manager. Work is done through the efforts of the entire team and the workers' skills are utilized to this effect. A person (usually an instructor), may be tasked to head the team; due to specialization in a particular area.
