Introduction

The world in which we live today is full of changes. These changes are taking place as a result of technological updates, methodological advancements, and educational development. Similarly, there are a lot of changes that are occurring in the field of politics. The game of politics is no more played in the way it is used to play in late 50s. Think tanks and interest groups are few of the things that have revolutionized the political arena. These two concepts have added and broadened the horizons of the political dimensions (Judis, 2010). Groups and individuals who seek to exert influence with lawmakers in order to further their agendas largely through lobbying and contributing to political campaigns are often referred to as special interests. Although their presence in U.S. politics is well established, that presence is controversial. While politicians, activists and commentators often decry the role of special interests in politics, experts say that the practice of soliciting money from special interests is widespread, even among those who condemn it. Special interests can affect politics in various ways. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about the phenomenon of interest groups. This paper revolves around the perspective of impact interest groups and on politics (Grossman, 2011).

Before discussing in favor of the research statements it is imperative to discuss what the interest groups are, what are the different kinds and how these groups can cause positive impacts in American politics?

Interest Groups

An interest group is a group of private persons or entities that are gathered and organized by a common interest to act together in defense of that interest, and to air their claims or negotiate with other stakeholders. An interest group (also referred as an advocacy group, special interest group, lobbying group, and pressure group) can be defined as a group the intention of these groups is to bring amendments in the policies in the favor and betterment of general public without being in the power or without being elected (Lytle, 2002). Sometimes the members of these groups remain loosely organized and sometimes they remain properly organized and remain committed for the fulfillment of their aims. Companies, groups and wealthy individual donors, who have an interest in a particular political outcome, supply candidates with money to cover the substantial costs of their campaigns.
