Introduction

Marijuana is a drug that has adverse effects on the human health. It has been made illegal by the governments so that health measures can be taken care of. This paper examines the issues and the factors that are related to Marijuana and thus leads to its illegality in different parts of the world. Marijuana is the drug that has not only negative affects but it also carries positive points. It is known for thousands of years as a medicine and a means of causing intoxication. Its usage was widespread in the nineteenth century, as analgesic, anticonvulsant and hypnotic agent. One of the components of marijuana, is not psychoactive in its action, called cannabidiol, can also be used as an anticonvulsant agent. The harmful and adverse affects of Marijuana prevails on its healthy components therefore it has been made illegal in most parts of the world.

Physiological and Behavioral Effects of Marijuana

Smoking Marijuana has harmful effects and causes bronchitis, pharyngitis, and sinusitis and lung cancer. Marijuana to a greater extent than tobacco, promotes the development of respiratory diseases and edema. According to the study undertaken by the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center XL held in San Diego, in the first hour of consumption, Marijuana smoking increases the likelihood of suffering a heart attack five times higher. Similarly, if a person smokes marijuana, it can hurt them in other aspects as well. Many people do not know, but marijuana smoke contains more tar and carcinogenic chemicals than tobacco smoke. The effects of a marijuana joint on the lungs are equivalent to four tobacco cigarettes, thereby exposing more users towards several diseases (Abdullaev& Nunnally, 2010, 45).

The smokers tend to inhale more deeply and hold smoke longer in their lungs than tobacco smokers, increasing the risk of cancer. Smoking marijuana irritates the lungs, aggravates asthma and is associated with cough and chronic bronchitis. In people at high risk of developing schizophrenia, marijuana may precipitate the onset of symptoms. Other physiological effects include swelling of the lining eyes, sore eyes, increased heart rate, and palpitation, an increase in blood pressure, mobility impairments, relaxation, and fluctuations in body temperature, headache, dizziness, nausea, and sensation of hunger. Marijuana adversely affects the behavior of the smokers as well. It includes reduction of psychomotor activity, impairment of concentration, impaired ability to correctly assess the distance, reduced ability to drive a car and other opera sequence that requires attention, rapid speech, and unrestrained loquacity. All these adverse effects are the reasons that the governments should not allow the usage of Marijuana as legal.

Adverse Affect on Reproduction System

Another adverse effect of Marijuana smoking is, it decreases the amount of testosterone that is the principal male hormone. Persistent and prolonged use can alter hormones so that disrupted the development of sexual function in adolescents.
