Forensic Investigation

Introduction

The term forensic investigation involves the use of technology and science in the investigation of evidence or facts to be presented in a court of law. The term forensic investigation is used nearly for all types of investigations ranging from murder to cases of financial fraud. This case belongs to the forensic investigation of a crime scene in which hairs, blood spatters and DNA, impression evidence like tyre marks and fingerprints are used to help connect suspects to a crime scene. Identification of weapon, the microscopic examination of tools and arms for the purpose of matching weapons to wounds helps in the identification of a weapon used in the crime. After carefully analyzing the evidence collected from the crime scene, the evidence is normally sent for processing to a crime lab (Saferstein, 2012).

Trace Evidence

Blood

Even though the robbers attacked the manager on the face with the sawn-off shotgun, he still managed to somehow open the safe. This implies that the manager was not severely injured, however a huge amount of force is not required to cause an injury especially when hitting with a metal made object such as a shotgun. Skin is made up of soft tissues and will possibly split or tear when hit with a solid object like a sawn-off shotgun. In this case, some of the blood would have essentially gotten on the shotgun, and it is also possible that some blood drip on the ground and therefore transferred onto the shoes of the robbers. The blood can be utilized for testing the Blood type and DNA. Different types of blood group have dissimilar rate of recurrence within the populaces, this would help in narrowing the list of individuals and identifying to whom the blood belongs to. Though this type of test in not as decisive as the DNA testing, because a number of individuals can have the same type of blood, but their DNA will always be different.

Hair

There is a great possibility that the masks of the robbers would have the hairs attached with them as the hair would have connected when the balaclava were worn by the robbers. Additionally, while putting the balaclava or taking it off would have caused some of the hair to fall and there is also a chance that the fabric would brush over the hairs of the robbers. The fallen hairs can also be found in the car. The hairs can either be measured by the DNA in the root or by using the microscopy. While conducting the hair microscopy, the hair can be differentiated by contrast of the hair structures when the sample is collected from the crime scene. In this case, it is likely expected of getting hair from the crime scene or from the car. If so then the DNA can be taken out from the roots of the hair which can be further used for DNA fingerprinting for the purpose of identification (Barton, 2011).
