Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Introduction

In medicine (gastroenterology), the term irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a group of functional bowel disorders that have a high prevalence have (disease incidence in the population), accounting for up to 50% of visits to specialists. Irritable bowel syndrome can mimic symptoms of possible bowel disease, however, unless these conditions are impossible, dangerous. Synonymous terms are Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), irritable bowel syndrome, colon, and "nervous bowel."

Definition and Result of IBS on the Body

The irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is also known as irritable bowel syndrome. In France, it also uses the term "irritable bowel syndrome." This is a digestive disorder that is characterized by discomfort or pain in the stomach. These symptoms are associated with changing the speed of passage of food through the colon, also called the large intestine (see diagram). This causes diarrhea. When contractions are slower and weaker than normal, the colon absorbs too much fluid, causing constipation (Whitehead, 2002). The stools are so hard and dry. Generally, there are three subcategories of the syndrome according to the type of major symptoms.

Syndrome with pain and diarrhea.

Syndrome with pain and constipation.

Syndrome with pain, diarrhea and constipation.

Thesis Statement

Today, many adults and children suffer from localized discomfort in their stomach and abdominal regions. Such discomfort may be largely due to the disease known as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), a diet-related disease causing significant abdominal discomfort. In simpler terms, IBS is a functional disorder occurring when intestine fails. Several contributing factors have been identified and associated with IBS, although the exact cause is still unknown. In general, diet plays a significant role in the gastrointestinal processes, and a healthy diet has been proven to control and treat IBS (Mikocka Walus, 2008).

Significance of the Study

The study will facilitate the learning, diagnosis and treatment of Irritable bowel syndrome. Such understanding is crucial since IBS is becoming common day by day therefore research focus is needed to address the issues.

Discussion

IBS and its Impact on the Gastrointestinal Tract

Signs and Symptoms

Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome are pain or discomfort in the abdomen accompanied by a change in bowel habits with the exclusion of a structural or biochemical cause. Increased pain sensitivity of the intestine to mechanical stimuli is a very sensitive, less specific signs of irritable bowel syndrome (Agréus, 1995). Depending on the nature of pain and bowel habits is also called spastic colon from. Irritable bowel syndrome can be classified into several subgroups, including diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome with alternating bowel habits. Typical is the overlap of chronic pelvic pain (the underlying cause is probably the wrong diagnosis by the gynecologist), with fibromyalgia (chronic pain, mental and physical fatigue) and mental illness.

Causes

The cause of IBS is unknown and is the subject of much research. Two basic hypotheses are proposed: either the people suffer from painful and abnormal contractions of the intestine, or they are more sensitive than normal movements of the colon and rectum, usually ...
