Introduction

The book of prophets is a book which discusses and highlights the prophets in the history of religion. It is important for the readers to understand as to how the book tries to explain the history and how it helps the people to know who their prophets were and what kind of a life they led. The book further discusses the concept of pathos and helps the people in understanding the real meaning of the book and how people should interpret the book. Moreover, the role of the prophets in the lives of the people is also discussed in the book. This book is an important and essential one in the history of the religion. The main focus of this paper is on the life of Isaiah, a prophet in the history of the religion of Christianity.

Discussion

He was one of the Latter Prophets and he lived during the times of Hosea, Micah and Amos. According to the book, the prophet received a call from God while he was in the Temple of Jerusalem. This happened in the eight century, B.C and this was termed as the turbulent time for Israel. The homeland of Jews was conquered by the Assyrian Empire and contained a number of prophecies. Isaiah was for Israel a national hero. He was a wonderful poet. The elegance of his style, the vividness of their images and their prophecies literary beauty makes it a classic in the literature of Israel. His work shows that he was a great poet with brilliant style and precision. His work also included picture novels and harmonious composition. Critics agree that he is the author of chapters 1-12, 15-24 and 33-35 of the Book of Isaiah, while discussing about the authorship of the rest of the book.

Isaiah was one of the prophets of Israel the eighth century who prophesied during the crisis caused by the expansion of the Assyrian Empire. He was born in Jerusalem 770 BC to -760 BC and was related to the royal family. Son of Amos, is considered one of the major prophets and it is estimated that the prophetic ministry of Isaiah was to last nearly half a century. According to the apocryphal Lives of the Prophets (1:1) and Ascension of Isaiah (5:11-14), died during the persecution caused by King Manasseh, which seems to refer to Hebrews 11:37.

Isaiah was a staunch opponent of the political alliance of the kings of Judah with the empires and called to trust the alliance with Yahweh. In particular he opposed the protectorate of Assyria that King Ahaz led to face the kings of Damascus and northern Israel. King Hezekiah wanted to counter the hegemony Assyrian alliance with Egypt to what Isaiah also opposed, but when Assyrian troops of Sennacherib besieged Jerusalem, Isaiah announced support to the resistance and the help of the Lord and the city was saved (Heschel, 2001).
