Doctorate of Nursing as a prerequisite for APRN

Introduction

The dead line set by the American College of Nursing, 2015, to require the DNP as a pre requisite to APRN program has set ripple effect throughout the medical field, the effects of which will create changes to the field of advanced nursing that will only delay and discourage the future candidates as well as undermine the existing APRNs and the instructors of APRN curriculum. The field of advanced nursing has progressively larger role in providing care to the patients from the time of their entrance to a clinic, hospital or any medical care unit, this care has continued during the process of diagnose and treatment. It will continue after the patient has been treated. The advanced nurse begins the involvement into the patients care and will continually act as the medium between the primary and specialty physician and the patient. This vital role allows the physician to attend many more cases while the patient would continually feel the constant and professional as well as personal care. The aftercare program which serves as follow-up and preventive care is largely controlled by the advanced nurse practitioner. In lieu of new developments in the field of care especially in the era of introduction of universal care to all, the role and impact of advanced nurses is more vital than ever (Fairman, 2000, 94-108).

The nurse and the nurse practitioner are not new. However during the last 10 years, the scope of practice and the environments in which she (he) works have evolved in a way that was never seen before. The scope of practice and the role of the nurse practitioner are different, but complementary role of the nurse. It is therefore important that the student (s) understands the social, legal and ethical scope of practice expanded in which the nurse and the nurse practitioner working. Roles and Responsibilities will also assess the current and historical practice the nurse practitioner in primary health care. This new knowledge will enable the participation in protocol development, political action, professional activities and collaboration together to ensure that the changing role of nurse practitioner continuing (Mundigar, Kane and Lenz, 2000, 59-68).

The role of the nurse - a leader in the organization of patient care and care for the mentally ill cannot be overestimated, since it includes a wide range of issues, without which it would be impossible to exercise self-therapeutic approach to patients and, ultimately, registering states or recovery (Fairman, 2000, 94-108).

More applicants will be needed to continue to keep with the growing needs that are apparent in this field while creating fewer obstacles while providing premium care is the logical path. The DNP program while would train expertise in the field of nursing should be viewed as a step in the training of the instructors.
