Jesus the Messiah

Introduction

The book that has been selected for the presentation of a summary is “Jesus the Messiah” written by Donald Guthrie. This book is basically found to be a non technical introduction about the life of Jesus Christ. In addition to this, the works of Jesus Christ presented throughout His life on earth have been significantly traced in this book. The claims and teachings of Jesus Christ have been presented in this book by the author for demonstrating an inspirational life of Jesus Christ. The author began this book by the belief that many people have that the life of Jesus Christ could not be written in the Biblical sense. In addition to this, it is also considered impossible to construct a psychological study of Jesus Christ. The developing of the messianic mission of Jesus Christ is found difficult to be traced. The deeds and teachings of Jesus Christ are an example for Christians to lead exemplary lives for the entire world. It is very important to understand that there is no one who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and fail to get affected by it (Guthrie, 1990). The core focus of this paper is to discuss the most important points about the life and deeds of Jesus Christ as presented in the selected book.

What is known of Jesus depends largely on the Christian tradition, especially that used for the composition of the Synoptic Gospels, written, according to majority opinion, about 30 or 40 years at least after His death (Guthrie, 2010). Most scholars think that by studying the Gospels, it is possible to reconstruct traditions dating back to contemporaries of Jesus, but there are large discrepancies among researchers as to the methods of textual analysis and the conclusions that can be drawn from them. There is also a minority of people that deny the historical existence of Jesus of Nazareth.

The life of Jesus is narrated in the Gospels written by some of the early Christians. Jesus was born in a poor family of Nazareth, son of Joseph and Mary. Although Christian civilization has imposed count of the years from the time course of his birth (which would begin with the first year of our era), ...
