Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the contrast that has been found in the literatures and poems of Jonathon Swift and Oliver Goldsmith; they have produced articles of criticism for various newspaper and magazines (Donald, 1957, 220). Social criticism has been found in the works of Oliver Goldsmith and Jonathon Swift, but they both have used it for different purposes.
Comparison between Jonathon Swift and Oliver Goldsmith
Swift has founded Irish literature in English for the first time; he was a writer of real genius. He was basically known for his prose work for example: A tale of a Tub and Gulliver's Travels, he was a poet as well of immense flair. Theoretically he was close to his English colleagues like Pope and Dryden, Swift's poetry evinces the similar quality savage satire and terror of the human body and its purposes that describes much of his writing style. Interestingly, Swift has also published transformation of rhymes from the Irish (Louis, 1942, 161-170).
Goldsmith has started his career as a writer in London; he has written literatures on many subjects that have paid adequate to keep his creditors at cove (Donald, 1957, 220). He came to belong to the circle of Samuel Johnson, Edmund Burke and Sir Joshua Reynolds. His works was mainly found in play for example: She Stoops to Conquer, novels like The Vicar of wake-field; he also has written two long poems that were The Deserted Village and The Traveler. His poems were first and the best in Irish poetry. It has been variously interpreted as a lament for the death of Irish village life under British rule and a protest at the effects of agricultural reform on the English rural landscape (Louis, 1942, 161-170).
Criticism of Swift
Swift has used criticism as an instrument to battle against the social vices. He has used it in two main approaches, firstly he criticizes to the faults that are current in the society and he has highlighted the essential changes in political and social structures.
