Introduction

The aim of the paper is to discuss the importance of the leadership in the motivation of the people as well as the importance of leadership in achieving short term goals in terms of appreciation, rewards and recognition. In addition to it, the paper highlights hoe the situation approach in the context of directive leadership approach can be incorporated in the situations where emergency is required. The paper follows the discussion of my personal experience of being leader of the Battalion in May, 2011. The concept of the paper is to highlight the implementation of the leadership in the overall scenario of the emergency situations.

Discussion

Leader is an interesting and crucial concept to understand, it embraces the ability of the person to exert positive social influence in order to accomplish a predefined task of the team with the help of the team members by intellectually utilizing the power and by delegation appropriate powers to the team members to motive them (Bass, B. M., & Bass, R., 2008). In today's dynamic world, the psychological characteristics have been changed, people all getting more challenging and demanding. In such circumstances, the concept of efficient and effective leadership has become even more crucial.

The importance of the leadership in the achievement of the targets can be extricated with the fact that effective leadership ship is one of the most influential concepts that is crucial for the success implementation of the decision and the predefined strategies (Selznick, D., & et al., 2010). Leadership holds the concept of inspiring the group of people towards some positive and creative goals. The concept of leadership empowers the leader of the team to emotionally as well as intellectually inspire the people of the group that you are going to lead. Leadership enhances the ability of a person regarding the control over the members of the team. However, it should be noticed that the concept of the leadership has some ethics attached to it.

An efficient and effective leadership is the one that can induces the team workers to work with their maximum potential (Aronson, E., 2009). A good team leader is one who makes his worker valuable and non substitutable assets and motive them to achieve the team goals not forcefully but with the tactics of effective leadership. In order to extricate the concept, I am discussing my own experience of leading a Battalion team.

In May 2011, I was transferred to the 863rd Engineer Battalion out of Chicago IL. I used to work there as a Maintenance Control Officer. My responsibility was to control all the vehicles and equipment that belonged to my Battalion. These include around 68 vehicles and more than hundred piece of equipment. We boarded to Kandahar, Afghanistan after after a month and a half through sea route. I had no idea before regarding the data.
