Legal Drinking Age in the U.S

Introduction

The age at which a person can purchase or consume alcohol is called as legal drinking age. There are various laws related to legal drinking age around the world and these laws cover variety of behaviors and issues determining where and when alcohol can be consumed. The legal drinking age varies around the world. Every country has different laws related to legal drinking age since it depends on special circumstances and exemptions. In some countries alcohol laws are only related to drinking on public places while alcohol consumption at home is usually unregulated. Similarly the legal age to consume alcohol can be different when compared to the purchasing age. UK is the only country in the world where people consume alcohol at home in their minimum age. They can consume alcohol at an early age (usually 16 or 17), in some states of India the drinking age is 25 years here in Spain the legal age is 18.

Similarly there are some countries like Muslim countries where alcohol consumption is ban for Muslims or both Muslims and non Muslims at any age. In United States from 1988, the minimum age to consume alcohol is 21 but there is an old controversy in this country related to legal drinking age because youngster's says that when they can join army and go fight in war, but cannot drink alcohol (www.petitiononline.com). now a days, people are debating a lot on this topic thus in this paper I am going to discuss on the issue whether the legal drinking age in United States of American should be lowered down to 18 or not.
