Introduction

This paper will focus on the life of parents who are suffering from debilitating diseases, which will be looked over predominantly through the lens of social worker/psychologist as this paper is supposed to depict social worker/psychologist emphasis. Debilitating diseases are primarily defined as those diseases that significantly impact the routine and daily activities of those who are subjected to such diseases. Although any type of disorder or disease comes with a propensity to affect daily life to a certain extent of patients or people who are suffering from it, debilitating diseases are distinguished from them in that they significantly create hindrance and impede the capacity of the patients to carry out and involve in physical activities. This necessitates the need for extensive personal or mechanical assistance so that patients suffering from debilitating diseases could lead normal life, as they face restricted physical capabilities which scar their ability to proceed with their routine tasks and continue with independent living.

Discussion

For the paper to proceed in a more focused way, it is imperative to identify and define the disease the specifics of which; as indicated in the requirements for this paper, will be examined out of the disparate debilitating diseases existing in an attempt to narrow down the continuum and the focus of the study. This is essential to ensure that comprehensive study pertaining to issue identification, value dimension, policy dimension, generalist social worker practice, identification and analysis of information and technological resources that could be used to enhance the services and resources available to address the issue; pertaining to debilitating disease under examination, followed by implications and recommendations for future action. For the purpose of attaining focus in the current study, scenario will be created which will indicate the debilitating disease that the patient; in this case parents, is subjected to, which subsequently will be followed by the structure designed for the study, as mentioned above. Although above mentioned description roughly reflects on the structure and contents that will be covered in the study, it will be significantly strengthen with a more vivid picture once the scenario is created, thereby acting as organizing framework for the paper including the aspects that will be observed.

Scenario/Summary of the Situation

The debilitating disease that is selected to carry out this study is Arthritis. The parents who were suffering from Arthritis were selected for this study to be conducted upon, through which the generalist social worker engaged in the planned change process. The parents who were suffering from Arthritis had two children, both of who were studying in school in secondary classes with the older girl being of eighth grade while the boy was in sixth grade. Although, the kids were a grown but yet the age group they were in requires significant care and support.
