Lockheed Martin Corporation is a global security company, which is involved in the research, design, development, manufacture, and integration of advanced technology systems and products. The following paper gives a brief overview of the company and its operations, with its origins and history. In addition to that, the organizational structure of Lockheed Martin and its decision making process is also discussed in the paper. Moreover, the formation of teams, resolving conflicts between teams and advice to further improve the teams of the organization are also discussed.

Introduction

Lockheed Martin Corporation is a global security company, which is involved in the research, design, development, manufacture, and integration of advanced technology systems and products. The company is currently located in the United States of America, and it is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. There are around 14,000 employees working in this corporation, with average revenue of $45,000 million in the last fiscal year 2010.

The primary market of the company is US; however, it is also catering to international defense and civil markets. The company has four business segments, which includes electronic systems, information systems and worldwide services, aeronautics, and space systems. The main products of the company include maritime systems and sensors, missiles, and fire control.

The electronic system of the company is involved in the designing, developing, and integrating of hardware and software solutions to ensure the readiness of the mission of armed forces and government agencies globally (Rogers et al. 2002).

The system of maritime and sensor is providing systems for ship integration services, which includes command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance over shore-based command centers. The company is also engaged in surface ship and submarine combat systems, sensors, port traffic management systems and supply chain management programs (Kiely 1999).

Discussion

The company continues to focus on the management of supply chain. Also, it is currently challenged to apply sustainability to its decision making process. In addition to that, the company is also involved in innovation and technology improvement techniques to develop the Airborne Multi-Intelligence Laboratory in order to deliver benefits for military strategic intelligence (Fisher et al. 1995).

The History Of The Organization

The history of the company begun in 1912 by the incorporation of the company by Glenn L martin, and Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing, which was incorporated in 1916 by Allan and Malcolm Loughead. Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing became Lockheed Aircraft in 1926 and the company started to produce aircraft to cater civilian, and military needs, which included P-38 Lightning and XP-900 in the 1930s (Kiely 1999).

Lockheed was the first company to produce the American jet fighter in 1944. After the end of the World War II, Lockheed kept the company engaged in the production of its transport and fighter planes while Martin was focusing on the commercial airline industry, and started the production of missiles, rockets and other modern weapons (Kessler 2002).
